Frequently Asked Question

What is Total Cholesterol?

Total cholesterol is the total amount of cholesterol in your blood. It is composed of low-density lipoprotein (LDL, or “bad”) cholesterol and high-density lipoprotein (HDL, or “good”) cholesterol. Cholesterol is a waxy, fat-like substance found in every cell in your body that circulates in the blood. It will risk your health if the amount of cholesterol increases in your blood.

What is HDL v LDL cholesterol?

High-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol helps clear fats from your bloodstream. Hence, it has been known as the "good" cholesterol. HDL cholesterol is useful because it helps move extra cholesterol through your body, keeping it from building up on artery walls. Ideally, you'll have a balance, with lower levels of LDL cholesterol and higher levels of HDL cholesterol.

Low-density lipoprotein (LDL) is referred to as "bad fat" because high levels in the blood may put you at a higher chance of acquiring heart disease. LDL particles transport cholesterol around the body. At high blood levels, excess LDL particles—and the cholesterol it transports—can stick to the walls of the arteries making them hard and narrow. When LDL cholesterol forms plaques in the arteries, it limits blood flow to and from the heart. If the heart doesn't get enough oxygen from the blood, it can cause chest pain or angina. If complete blockage of a vessel occurs and no oxygenated blood can get through, a person may experience a heart attack.

What is Glucose Monitoring?

Blood glucose monitoring is the use of a glucose meter for testing the concentration of glucose in the blood. This is important in diabetes management. A blood glucose test is typically performed by piercing the skin to extract a small amount of blood, then applying the blood to a chemically active disposable test strip.

Why do I need a lancet and lancing device?

Lancets and a lancing device are also used to safely prick the skin to obtain a small blood sample and are virtually painless.  A lancing device is a blood-sampling device equipped with a lancet. A lancing device is used to firmly grip the lancet and is operated by simply clicking a button. You should not attempt to obtain a blood sample without a lancet and lancing device.

Is this a repeat use meter?

The Cholesterol and Glucose Meter can be repeatedly used as many times as you want but a disposable testing strip must be used each time. The  LipidoCare Meter comes with its own management software. Please note: We don’t supply the standard cable to connect the meter to your PC. The cable required is a standard universal A-Male to Mini-B USB cable.
