While easy to use this is a product that you must read the instructions in detail for effective and accurate use. In order to ensure precise measurements from your Berrcom infrared non-contact thermometer, like all noncontact thermometers, it is essential that each user has received adequate information/training on the measurement technique when using this type of device. Please note before purchase some of the key facts about using an infrared thermometer:

• Must be used in an ambient temperature range of 10 - 40 degrees Celcius.
• Must not be used in high relative humidity levels above 85%.
• You must let a non-contact thermometer acclimatize for 15 - 20 mins to the ambient temperature if moved from one location to another. i.e if you took out of a car in the morning and brought indoors the significant change in temperature could affect the reading.
• You should leave 5 seconds in between each test.
• Not suitable for outdoor use or in a draughty environment including near air conditioning or fans.
• When comparing the results of different temperature-taking methods note that forehead temperature, oral, underarm, and rectal temperatures can all have slight variations from each other
• the tolerance/ accuracy level of the Berrcom infrared thermometer is as follows:

- 32~34.9 ℃ ： ±0.3℃
- 36~42℃: ±0.2 ℃
- 42.1~42.9℃： ±0.3℃

Colour Coded Alert System:

This non-contact infrared thermometer has a visual, color-coded alert system. The screen will change colour and give an audible alarm if a fever is detected or approaching.

Green Backlight: lower than 37.3°C (99.14°F) normal temperature

Orange Backlight: 37.4°C - 37.9°C (99.3°F - 100.2°F), low fever

Red Backlight: higher than 38°C (100.4°F), high fever

Temperature Modes:

This non-contact infrared thermometer can switch between Fahrenheit and Celsius and has 3 modes to choose from: Body, Room and Surface.

To set the mode, simply press the measurement trigger to go to Home Screen.

• Press the MODE button. The LCD screen will display Body. This is the

default setting. If the device will be used to measure body temperature,

leave it on Body mode.

• The device also measures ambient (room) and surface temperature. To

switch the mode to Room, press the MODE button twice. Press the

MODE button three (3) times for the Surface mode.

To choose the measurement scale, press the measurement trigger to go

to Home Screen.

• Press and hold the MODE button until F1 is displayed on the LCD

screen. Press the MODE button to switch between Celsius and

Fahrenheit.

Taking Body Temperature:

To take the body temperature of an individual, press the measurement trigger to go to Home Screen.

• From no more than 3cm to 5cm (1.2in to 2in), aim the device at the middle of the forehead of the individual being screened. Press the measurement trigger to take the temperature.

 • The temperature will be displayed in one second. (See the diagram below for the device positioning).

• When there is perspiration on the forehead, the temperature may also be taken behind the ear lobe. Ensure there is no hair, perspiration, cosmetics or clothing covering the area. • Allow 3 to 5 seconds between temperature measurements.

• If there is no activity for 30 seconds, the device will automatically shut off. “Wake up” the device, by pressing the measurement trigger.

How do infrared thermometers work?

Heat is emitted from any object or surface including our bodies -  an infrared thermometer can gauge the difference between the infrared rays coming from of the surface of an object and the surrounding environment to accurately reflect the surface temperature of that object.

An Infrared thermometer works by channeling light that is emitted from the object in the form of Infrared rays and focusing that light into a sensor called a thermopile.

Advantages of Temporal Artery (ta) Temperature The temporal artery runs across the forehead, just below the skin. It is connected to the heart by the carotid artery, which is connected to the aorta. Given the location of this major artery, measuring the temperature at the forehead renders a reliable result when used for screening purposes. Taking temperature at the forehead may be preferable when compared to other methods because of the efficiency, speed and comfort. Operating Principle All objects, solid, liquid or gas, emit energy by radiation. The intensity of this energy depends on the temperature of the object.

The Non-Contact Forehead Infrared Thermometer works by detecting the radiation energy being emitted by the arterial blood flow in the forehead, which is in close proximity to the heart and runs just below the skin surface.
