European-Made Fuel Cell Sensor Technology

The new Minilab IQ features a European-made fuel cell sensor, using the same core technology trusted by Irish Gardaí and police forces worldwide. This professional-grade sensor is alcohol-specific, meaning it reacts only to ethanol and not to external contaminants.

Fuel cell technology delivers superior accuracy and stability across a wide range of BAC levels. Unlike semiconductor devices, which can be influenced by temperature, humidity or other airborne substances, fuel cell sensors maintain precision even at higher alcohol concentrations. Semiconductor units may also respond to non-alcohol compounds, potentially producing unreliable readings. Fuel cell systems are engineered specifically to avoid this.

Breath Flow Capture Control

Minilab IQ is designed to capture a deep-lung air sample for every test, helping prevent underestimation of results. The device monitors breath flow in real time and will prompt the user to repeat the test if a sufficient sample is not obtained. This ensures consistency, reliability and user confidence with every reading.

Colour Alerts & Results to 3 Decimal Places

Minilab IQ displays results to 3 decimal places in mg/L, providing detailed and accurate measurement aligned with Irish drink-driving limits.

In addition to the precise numerical reading, the device incorporates a colour-coded alert system. The LCD screen and warning indicator illuminate at defined thresholds relevant to Irish legal limits:

0.09 mg/L – Learner, Novice and Professional Drivers
0.22 mg/L – All Other Drivers

Built-In Service Reminder

Minilab IQ includes an integrated calibration and sensor-change reminder. The device will notify you after 500 tests, prompting you to arrange calibration or replace the sensor.

While the European-made fuel cell sensor is designed for long operational life and may continue functioning beyond this point, all serious breathalysers require periodic servicing to maintain accuracy. Over time, sensors naturally drift and measurement precision can reduce.

For optimal performance, we recommend calibration or sensor replacement at least every 12 months, or sooner depending on frequency of use.

Rechargeable.

This breathalyzer is fully rechargeable with the new version Android phone charger type ( cable included, plug not included). This device has a built-in large -capacity lithium battery, which can provide you with a standby time for up to one month after full charging. This device uses the USB Type-C standard charging interface, or you can use the national standard Type-C 5V charging ornament or charger to charge but charging with an inferior charging adapter may cause product failure and damage. The minilab h3 breathalyzer has a battery indicator on the screen at all times.

Service & Calibration in Ireland

Minilab IQ is fully serviced and calibrated in Ireland. Standard calibration turnaround is 1 business day, with typical door-to-door shipping typically completed within approximately 3 business days.

A permanent calibration record is maintained for your device, ensuring documented service history and traceability.

Calibration is recommended every 200 uses or every 6 to 12 months, depending on frequency of use.

You may send your device to us at any time for a free assessment to determine whether calibration is required.

Memory.

Minilab IQ stores up to 2000 test results in internal memory, allowing you to review previous readings directly on the device.

A record of the most recent calibration is also stored for reference, providing visibility of the device’s service status.

Users may find it useful to track food and alcohol consumption alongside recorded results. Reviewing this information over time can help build awareness of how alcohol levels vary under different conditions.

1-year warranty

Minilab IQ includes a 1-year repair or replacement warranty covering manufacturing defects.

The warranty is activated automatically from the date of purchase.

This warranty covers device faults arising from normal intended use. It does not cover accidental damage, misuse, or sensor degradation resulting from usage beyond recommended service intervals (500 tests or 6–12 months, whichever comes first). Damage caused by blowing raw alcohol directly into the sensor is also excluded.

All warranty assessment and service is carried out in Ireland.

Inbound shipping to Minilab is not included under warranty.

A low, “LO,” or zero reading does not guarantee the absence of impairment, unimpaired judgement, safe reaction time, or compliance with legal limits. The only safe level of alcohol for driving is zero. This device must never be used to justify drinking and driving.

Results displayed are estimates based on breath alcohol concentration and may not precisely reflect blood alcohol concentration (BAC). Breath alcohol readings are influenced by numerous factors including, but not limited to, recent alcohol consumption, residual mouth alcohol, food intake, smoking, use of mouthwash or oral products, environmental alcohol vapours, temperature, humidity, improper breath technique, improper storage, or failure to follow operating instructions.

To reduce the risk of inaccurate readings, users must wait at least 20–30 minutes after consuming alcohol, eating, smoking, or using oral products before testing. Testing too soon may result in artificially elevated or inaccurate readings and may damage the sensor.

This device uses fuel-cell sensor technology designed to detect ethanol specifically. While fuel-cell technology significantly reduces cross-sensitivity compared to semiconductor sensors, the presence of non-ethanol alcohols (including but not limited to methanol or isopropanol) or certain volatile organic compounds in high concentrations may influence readings.

Certain medical or physiological conditions, including but not limited to diabetes, ketosis, ketoacidosis, or other metabolic states, may produce breath compounds that could affect readings. Users with medical conditions should consult a qualified professional regarding interpretation of results.

Alcohol levels may continue to rise for several hours after drinking has ceased. A test result reflects alcohol concentration only at the precise time of testing and does not predict future levels.

Alcohol limits vary by country and jurisdiction. Users are solely responsible for understanding and complying with all applicable laws and legal thresholds in their region. Alert thresholds within the device are user-configurable and do not alter or replace legal limits.

Like all precision instruments, the device requires periodic calibration and, where applicable, sensor replacement to maintain performance. Failure to calibrate at recommended intervals may result in inaccurate readings. The device must not be used without a mouthpiece if specified in the instructions, as improper use may damage the sensor and affect accuracy.
