A LITTLE STORY ABOUT BURT'S BEES

The story of how Burt's Bees was created is not your average story. In 1984, in Maine, an artist named Roxanne Quimby thumbed a lift from a Beekeeper called Burt Shavitz, Roxanne recognised Burt from his well-known honey stall on the side of the road. The pair hit it off and Roxanne was soon making candles from the unused wax from Burt's beehives and they both set up a stall at a craft fair. From humble beginnings of craft fair sales of candles and lip balms to worldwide sales of over 150 products, Burt's Bees has stuck to their original ethos of producing only natural products

WHO IS BURT?

Burt Shavitz was a lover of motorcycles, golden retrievers, nature and bees. Before "Burt's Bees", Burt sold his honey from the back of his truck on the side of the road. He was a beekeeper until his last days on earth and tended to his beehives with his bare hands allowing him to connect directly with the hardworking little insects that he loved. This would go on to shape a fascinating and wonderful legacy
